Students, welcome to Arjan. The CLAT 2026 date has been announced, and the registration forms are now available. This post is about the entire CLAT admissions process—what to keep in mind while filling out the registration form, which mistakes to avoid, and how to complete it correctly. We won’t make this unnecessarily long. We’ll look at all the important points once and check how to fill out the form from scratch.
How to Start CLAT Admissions 2026 Registration (Step 1)
- Search “Consortium of NLUs.”
- Open their website. You’ll see the CLAT 2026 option at the top. You can also open the CLAT 2026 page directly and click it.
- On the CLAT 2026 page, you’ll see the portal.
If you don’t have an account:
- Click “Register Account.”
- Enter your details and set a simple password.
- You’ll receive an OTP at the end—enter it and complete registration.
Then:
- You’ll return to the website’s login page.
- Enter your registered mobile number and the password you set.
- Click “Login.” Your account is created and you’re logged in.
CLAT Admissions Portal: What to Read Before Proceeding
- You’ll see the “Application Process” and eligibility criteria. Read them carefully.
- You’ll also see which NLUs are participating (not in much detail).
- Note: “You do not have to complete the application process and fee payment in one sitting.” More on that below.
- You’ll see two options (UG/PG). Click the one you’re applying for.
- Most students I deal with apply for CLAT UG, so we’ll talk about that. Click UG and “Apply for CLAT.”
Eligibility for CLAT UG Admissions 2026
- No upper age limit.
- Minimum marks: 45% in Class 12 (40% for certain categories).
- Important: 11th graders should also consider applying and taking the exam once.
- Concern: “We’re not in 12th/passed—how can we take it?”
- These requirements matter after selection—during college admission—when documents are asked. So if you’re in 11th, you can still fill the form. I’ll show how.
Documents Required for CLAT Admissions (Photo & Signature)
- Photograph: Your face should cover 60–70% of the image (as per the provision).
- Signature: Sign on a blank page, take a photo, crop and reduce size, and upload.
CLAT Admissions Form: Personal, Address & Academic Details
- Enter your name, gender, parents’ names, and date of birth.
- All-India category: select what applies to you.
- If you are PWD, select Yes; otherwise, No.
- If you are EWS, select Yes; otherwise, No.
- If you are BPL, select Yes; otherwise, No.
Click “Save as Draft.”
Save as Draft: What It Means
- This is what the earlier note meant: you don’t have to fill everything and pay in one go.
- If you save up to this point, you can come back later and continue from here (no need to start over).
Correspondence Address
- Fill your address. If permanent and correspondence are the same, copy them; if not, enter both separately.
- Select your State.
- Enter an alternate email ID.
- Save as Draft.
Qualifying Exam Details
This applies to 11th students, 12th students, and droppers.
- Select your stream (e.g., Science).
- Select your Board/University (e.g., CBSE).
- Choose “Appearing” or “Passed.”
- Droppers: select “Passed.”
- Students in 12th or 11th: select “Appearing.”
Month of Passing
- If you’ve already passed: enter your actual month (e.g., April).
- If you haven’t passed yet (in 11th/12th and will pass next year): enter May 2026.
- If you’re a dropper: enter the 2025 month/year accordingly.
- Percentage is not mandatory—skip it and move ahead.
Test City Preferences
- Select your three nearest cities.
- Put your first preference where you most want to take the exam; if not allotted, the second; if not, the third.
Reservation and Domicile
Understand this carefully and fill it at home with the right documents in mind.
- This section asks whether you have a domicile certificate for any state.
- Example: If you live in Bengaluru and have a Karnataka domicile certificate, select “Yes” for Karnataka student.
- Reservation category: If applicable, select OBC/EWS/etc.; otherwise, “Not Applicable.”
- Suppose you are from Karnataka and fall under OBC, then select OBC. If EWS, select EWS. The same logic applies to every state.
Important:
- Do not leave this page blank. For any state where you do NOT have domicile, click “No” and move ahead.
- You cannot select domicile for more than three places (obvious—you can’t have more than three domiciles). For most, it will be just one.
- For any state where you click “Yes,” read the extra requirements shown and fill carefully. For states you mark “No,” you don’t need to worry.
At the end, check your entries, tick the consent, and click “Submit Form.” That’s it.
Final Steps for clat admissions: Verify Email and Make Payment
- Before payment, verify your email address.
- Click “Verify,” then “Request OTP.”
- You’ll receive an OTP on your email ID. Enter it to verify. That completes the verification.
Make Payment
- You can pay immediately or later. Your form remains saved; you won’t need to refill it.
- First, go to “Edit Application Form” and carefully check every detail.
Note:
- If you paid without checking, you can still edit later within the edit window provided.
When you’re sure:
- Click “Make Payment.”
Previous Year Question Papers (Add-On)
- You’ll be asked if you want previous year questions. If you select “Yes,” ₹500 extra will be charged.
- Trust me, this is useless. Do not select it. All PDFs are freely available on Google. No need to pay ₹500 for their PDFs.
Application Fee
- General: ₹4000
- SC/ST (with reservation criteria selected): ₹3500
After you click “Confirm Payment,” you’ll be redirected to the payment gateway (Cashfree Payments).
- You can pay via QR code, UPI, card, net banking, or wallet.
Once payment is done:
- Your application form is complete.
- You can still edit after payment (within the allowed window), but it’s better to confirm everything before paying so you’re tension-free.
